Eagle County Smiles, now in its fifteenth year of operation, is a community collaborative program of the Vail Valley Charitable Fund that offers low-cost dental care to local children, birth through 18 years of age, who are uninsured. Over 950 children have been served by the program since its inception in 2010. Through the program children develop a dental home and a relationship with a local dental provider, as well as lifelong healthy dental habits through preventive, restorative and educational care. The program depends upon the collaboration of dozens of community partners including nurses, doctors, dental care providers, public agencies and non-profit leaders. The program’s goal is to help any child who needs it, whether it’s a simple teeth-cleaning or something more serious.
If you know a child who needs dental care, contact their school nurse, medical provider or dentist for a referral to Eagle County Smiles. An application process is required prior to dental services being provided, and that application can be accessed here: Eagle County Smiles Referral 2025.
Support is provided from Vail Valley Cares, Rocky Mountain Health Foundation, Vail Rotary and private donors.

“I am the health manager for the Eagle County School District Early Childhood Program. I can offer testimony to the important work they do to ensure health equity in our community. This amazing program allows uninsured children to receive preventative and restorative dental care with no barriers. Children are not in pain, and they receive the care they need. Children with healthy mouths learn better! The VVCF continues to reduce barriers to care and increase health equity. Their initial mission was to provide financial assistance to those suffering from a medical crisis or long-term illness. They added to their mission the ECS program, to help uninsured children access dental care. Their diligent monitoring of gaps in health care and efforts to bring health equity to Eagle County. Their collaboration with numerous partners and enthusiasm for breaking down health barriers is remarkable..”
